EP344 - Alan Hirsch Talks the Role of Digital in Incarnational Ministry
What if incarnational ministry wasn’t limited by geography, but expanded through presence in digital spaces? What if the Church started seeing platforms as neighborhoods instead of just pulpits? Alan Hirsch, Jeff Reed, and Jesse Carbo sit down to rethink how the Church embodies the gospel online. Drawing from Hirsch’s missional framework and Lesslie Newbigin’s influence, they press into one core idea: the digital world is not an add-on, it’s a mission field. Alan breaks down why the Church must rediscover its apostolic identity and stop outsourcing mission to content. Incarnation means showing up where people are—and right now, that’s online. Jesse unpacks how spiritual formation is already happening in digital spaces and how presence, not just programming, leads to transformation. He makes the case for why treating platforms like relational environments changes everything. Jeff pushes churches to reframe discipleship in algorithm-driven spaces. It's not about distribution, it’s about presence. Digital isn't a tool to use, it's a culture to live in. If you’ve ever wondered if real ministry can happen in digital space, this conversation answers yes. Because Jesus still moves into the neighborhood. And the neighborhood is online. #incarnationalministry #alanhirsch #digitalchurch ============================= TABLE OF CONTENTS: ============================= 00:00 A call to rediscover mission in the digital neighborhood 06:52 Global livestream announcement 10:20 Incarnation means showing up 15:59 From Gutenberg to Google 22:17 The pressure of innovation on church presence and connection 30:56 Rethinking communication 33:09 Moving from broadcast to community 39:05 Why churches resist change 46:49 Rejecting manipulation, embodying Jesus across online platforms 53:02 Platforms as places 58:20 Tech as distraction and gift 01:00:37 Friendship and film in unexpected places 01:05:31 The future of digital discipleship ============================= VIDEO LINKS: ============================= Join the movement and hit subscribe for more content that validates churches in digital spaces: → Subscribe Now! https://www.youtube.com/@bethechurchdigital?sub_confirmation=1 ►► Join The Fam on Whatsapp! ► https://whatsapp.thechurch.digital/ ►► Join The Fam on Discord! ► https://discord.thechurch.digital/ Podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thechurchdigital WEB: https://www.thechurch.digital/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/bethechurchdigital/?hl=en FB: https://www.facebook.com/bethechurchdigital
